Raising Our Voices: Rural Advocacy

This project develops rural leadership to advocate for land and water conservation and for environmental and community health as vital priorities when considering new and expanded energy development in Colorado’s agricultural regions and critical water supply areas.

Healthy lands and clean water protect Colorado’s farms and our food and drink economies, and are critical to our food security. Farmworkers and rural residents all deserve a safe and healthy environment in which to work and live. Too often industrial development like oil and gas fracking and drilling is located in places that risk human health, public safety, and the quality of our environment. For much of rural Colorado this not only puts locals in harms’ way, but can also jeopardize the water sources and food supplies across a much larger region.

Raising Our Voices project activates rural leaders as effective and strategic advocates in defense of healthy lands, clean water, and a safe environment - and as a countervailing voice to those that think reviving a fossil fuel economy presents a viable future.  We provide training, leadership development, networking, and opportunities to directly interact with policy-makers at the local, state, and federal levels.

Colorado Farm & Food Alliance is a supporter of the League of Oil and Gas Impacted Coloradans and the Keep the North Fork Fruitful campaign, though which we partner on much of this work.
